Welcome to Mendenhall, the first separate elementary school in the Plano Independent School District.

Our mission is for the Mendenhall community to work together to develop each student as a life-long learner and responsible citizen.

It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself as the Principal of Mendenhall Elementary School! My passion for education and supporting the success of all students has been shaped over the years as a teacher in 3rd grade (St. Louis, MO), 6th grade (Chicago, IL), 1st Grade (Plano, TX), and as an assistant principal in Garland ISD and Plano ISD. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Go Huskers!!). My graduate degree was obtained from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and my Principal certification was completed through Concordia University-Texas.

Mendenhall has an amazing reputation for growing the whole child and providing opportunities for kids. This has not materialized by accident. It has been through the hard work, dedication, and partnerships that have existed between school staff, parents, and community members. This formula for success is what has embraced me from the very beginning when I walked through the doors for the first time. I am humbled and most appreciative of the opportunity presented to me to become a member of this educational family.

Accompanying my great sense of excitement as I transition into this new role is a profound sense of duty and commitment to continue working together to provide differentiated learning opportunities, meet the physical and social/emotional needs for each student, and inspire and challenge students with engaging experiences.

I am confident, that together, we will continue making Mendenhall Elementary School a great place for students to learn and grow.

Biography:

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! It is truly an honor to return to Mendenhall Elementary, a place that holds a special place in my heart having been a former teacher here. I am excited to join this incredible school community again and serve alongside our outstanding staff, students, and families.

This year marks my 20th year in public education. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to serve in a variety of roles, including 1st and 3rd grade bilingual teacher, middle school ESL and Reading teacher, university adjunct instructor in the Bilingual Education Dept., elementary and middle school assistant principal, district level ESL coordinator, and elementary principal. Each of these experiences has strengthened my passion for supporting students, empowering teachers, and building strong partnerships with families. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Texas San Antonio in English Literature. I later returned to complete my teacher certification from the University of Texas. My master's degree was from Texas Woman's University in Bilingual Administration.

Serving as Assistant Principal is where my heart is, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support our exceptional principal, dedicated staff, and wonderful Mendenhall families and students. Together, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment where every student is encouraged to grow, achieve, and thrive.

As we begin this school year, our team has been hard at work preparing for a wonderful year ahead. We look forward to partnering with our families as we work together to ensure each student reaches their full potential. Your support, involvement, and encouragement make a tremendous difference in the success of our students and our school community.

I am excited for all that lies ahead and look forward to an amazing year of learning, growth, and celebration at Mendenhall Elementary!

With gratitude,

Missey Ferrell, M.Ed.
